Window To The World - Grasshopper

What’s outside your window? It’s going to determine how you see the world and your place in it.

Window in this case is metaphorical, not literal. The real question is, “How do you view the world?”

Is it a big, bad wolf or is it an inviting oyster?

How you characterize the sphere in which you live dictates how you live your life. You’ll be somewhere on the continuum between scared rabbit and the bull that has to be taken by the horns.

If you like where you are, no need to look out another window. But if you don’t like the view, window replacement is recommended for you.

You’ve been conditioned to see what you see on the other side of the glass to the point that it’s a rock solid belief.

Reminds me of a story from my childhood.

When visiting my grandmother’s house you had to walk through the dining room to get to the kitchen. She lived in a very old house and many of the fixtures were old. One day I spotted a giant spider underneath a hutch next to the electrical outlet on the wall. It froze me in my tracks. But I wanted to get to the kitchen where she had an inviting piece of cake she just baked waiting for me. So, I took a deep breath and then ran as fast as I could through the dining room to the kitchen.

Every time I visited my grandmother, I would experience the same fear of that giant spider that was always there and I would run through the dining room. Until one day, I stopped and put more than a fearful glance under the hutch. I was determined to look at what was scaring the bejesus out of me. I discovered it wasn’t a spider at all, but frayed, black wiring that was attached to the plug that went into the outlet.

I was seeing something that wasn’t there until I wasn’t.

This is a reminder to review your beliefs from time to time, because beliefs determine our behavior. And if a behavior isn’t serving you well, you would be well informed to bring to mind the words of Socrates: “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

More carefully examine what’s outside your window. You may very well find that your view has been askew, and you’re about to form a new belief about you.

All the best,

John
