Human Beings Selectively Love And Hate, And Both Qualities Blind - Grasshopper
Open your eyes to the notions that love is blind and hatred blinds and see through to the soul.
It's easy to overlook something in someone you love and easy to spotlight it in someone you hate. In doing so, we miss the depth in both.
The thing we are overlooking in someone we love is a pattern of behavior, yet we label it as them. People are not their patterns.
Your spouse is no more a missing toothpaste cap than your enemy is the devil himself.
People are patterned creatures but they aren't their patterns. That's the recognition necessary to get to the next step - seeing through to their soul.
This is more than overlooking one's shortcomings. That's just labeling them as imperfect and missing their perfection.
There are consequences for behavior, but behavior is inconsequential in seeing through to the soul.
The vilest creature on death row has a soul - a core where there are no patterns of behavior. That fact will never excuse them for their crimes, but it's necessary for us to recognize a soul in them in order to be able to sense it in us.
How often do we beat ourselves up for our patterns? It's a daily occurrence that happens in our head and keeps us separated from our soul.
As long as we selectively love and hate ourselves, the longer it will take to discover our soul.
The soul has no judgement; it doesn't discriminate. It's our quiet place of perfection.
We all own this real estate; it's common property that's deeded to everyone, no matter their deeds.
I find it truly difficult to help someone when I am judging their patterns; it's next to impossible to help ourselves while judging.
There is a difference between recognition and judgement. Recognition is noticing; judgement is adding meaning to that which you notice.
It's the adding of meaning that has us miss seeing our most meaningful part - our soul.
Forgiving is not forgetting. We can remember the deeds but it takes effort to harbor resentment. That resentment is housed in our mind, not our soul.
In order to find your soul, you need to quiet your mind. When you make the time to do this on a regular basis, resentment melts and fades away and your soul finds you.
Once found, our blinders are removed. This allows us to see our soul in everyone else.
All the best,
John
