Your Focus Determines Your Future - Grasshopper
Sometimes we need to be reminded that what's out of focus requires our focus. It's not because we don't know what area to focus on, we just need a cue to get a clue to begin looking there.
What we fail to grasp when we continue to fail is that ignoring the area of our life that's out of focus contributes greatly to self-sabotage.
We continue to focus on that which props up our pretense of winning, which is a losing strategy.
For example, if all of our focus is on avoidance and feel good remedies, there's none left to zero in on the things that are causing our catastrophes. We want to feel good without noticing what's causing us to feel bad. It's a denial strategy that keeps things fuzzy.
Being out of focus is as addictive as any mood altering substance. Even an abuser can follow the logic that if you eliminate the cause, you eliminate the result, except when it comes to them. That's when we get treated to some "Funhouse Mirror Logic."
It's like listening to an unprepared high school student attempting to bluff their way through an oral exam. The telltale sign they are bleary eyed is when they become belligerent when you refuse to buy in to their porous pronouncements.
Even as they bellow in your direction, you know that even they know their focus in misplaced. It's the secret that everyone knows.
So how do we shift our focus?
There's certainly enough logic present to accomplish the task, but logic isn't working. To shift our focus and change our fortune, it's helpful to look into a crystal ball.
You can use your imagination to recover the power of focus. I encourage you to do the following two mental experiments now.
1. Take a moment and imagine a future that's just like the present. As you gaze into the crystal ball, notice the steps you take that take you to the same place.
2. Now imagine a future that's more to your liking. As you gaze into that globe, notice the steps that take you there. They are different.
There is a clear path to either future; you just need to focus on the steps to get to the one you want.
Often, we overwhelm ourselves when we attempt to focus on the entire mission, causing the steps to go out of focus. This allows inertia to settle in. That mountain is too big to climb until we focus on our footing, one crevice at a time.
It only takes a little imagination to pretend you have a crystal ball, and even though it's imaginary, it can focus you on the solid footing to your future.
Looking into a crystal ball will reveal your fortune which is this: Your focus determines your future.
All the best,
John
