Life’s Hardest Challenge Is Finding Out Who You’re Not - Grasshopper

Life's mission is clear cut and simple, but carrying it out is resisted almost every step of the way.

How do you convince yourself that ghosts aren't real, especially if you talk to one every day? That's the challenge we all face in the search to find out who we are not.
The biggest discovery you can make in this lifetime is that you are not the voice in your head. You are not the chatterbox that pretends to be you. Even after we discover that the voice in our head is just a bunch of looped recordings, we still engage it in debate. That's why we are all mentally ill.
The pathway to sanity is finding out who we are. It's like the classic battle between dark and light, but there is no real battle going on. It's just a phantom war.
Dark doesn't exist on its own. It's just an absence of light. Dark is everywhere where light isn't. The part of us that confuses the talk in our head with who we are is the dark. Once it's exposed to light, it disappears.
The light is who we are. It's the part of us that illuminates and observes the dark corners of our mind. All we have to do is open the blinds and let it in.
Finding out that you are not the dark is step one. That's an intellectual discovery that now needs behavior attached. The behavior is to shine the light in the dark. That means that when you catch yourself getting caught up in your thoughts, it's time to focus your light. That means to notice that your thought machine is on automatic pilot.
Every time you catch your thought bubbles pretending to be you, you let in a little more light. With each new ray comes new life.
Thoughts are meant to flow in and out of our head. But the thought machine is an obstruction in the pipeline. It clogs up the flow only allowing the stuck thoughts within its structure to have any say. Since it takes up the most space in our stream of consciousness, we think it's who we are. It's not. It's an obstruction to who we are.
The key to getting your thoughts unstuck and flowing again is to notice that they are stuck. This is finding out who we're not.
When you discover that you have been confusing yourself with a stuck thought, is the day to stock up on sunscreen because you are about to be exposed to the light.
Even after you make the discovery of who you aren't, it's easy to get sucked back in because of our life-long habit of living in the dark. The pathway out is always the same. Catch yourself pretending to be the voice in your head. Just this bit of observation will bring back the light and let the darkness flow away.
Shining your light brings one of life's biggest secrets into plain view. The voice in your head is not you.

All the best,
John
