How Lucky Are You? - Grasshopper

I was watching a video clip the other day where podcaster Mel Robbins was interviewing mentalist Oz Pearlman.

Pearlman said something that really stuck with me:
"Put yourself in a situation where luck can happen."

I'm pretty sure he wasn't suggesting a trip to the casino or the racetrack.

What I think he meant was this: Put yourself around people who make things happen.

Think about it. How often do we get together with friends or family and spend our time talking about how bad things are? 

Before long, everyone has another story about what went wrong.
If that's the environment you keep putting yourself in, don't be too surprised when it feels like bad luck follows you around.

The good news is, you don't even have to know "lucky" people personally.

You can watch their videos. Read their books. Listen to their podcasts. Attend their seminars. Learn how they think. Discover the habits that seem to create their own good fortune.

I recently watched another clip  – this one featuring NFL legend Tom Brady.

He admitted that during his college football days, he had a terrible attitude. He complained that he should've been playing more, and that the coaches didn't recognize his talent.

Naturally, he attracted a little fan club of second- and third-string players who felt exactly the same way. They'd sit around together complaining about the coaches and criticizing the players who were ahead of them.

Then a sports psychologist gave Brady a wake-up call.

He said, "You have a shit attitude."

Not exactly sugar-coated.

Then he told Brady to make the absolute most of every opportunity he was given. Practice like every snap mattered. Treat every play as though it were the biggest play of the game. Make yourself impossible to ignore.

Apparently, Brady took that advice to heart. By his senior year, he led Michigan to a conference championship and was voted the team's MVP.

So if you'd like to be a little luckier, put yourself in situations where luck has a chance to happen.

Spend time with people who elevate you. Learn from people who've already done what you'd like to do. Show up where opportunities live.

Because, more often than not, we create the luck we eventually enjoy.
