Your Future Is Now - Grasshopper

You won’t need a crystal ball to see what’s in your future when you give heed to this offering from The Grasshopper: “Your future will be the offspring of what you’re doing now.”

The seeds you’re sowing right now are the most accurate predictor of what lies ahead for you.

I’m remembering this posting from Robert Brault, the king of bite-sized, pithy, pronouncements: “If you don’t decide what your life is about, it defaults to what you spend your days doing.”

The question worth asking yourself is: What am I doing now? Make it a habit to ask it often. It’ll remind you to pay attention to what efforts are necessary now to have a predictable then.

Reminds me of a story . . . I remember when I turned fifty and got a call from my dad wishing me “Happy Birthday.” During our conversation, I recall asking him this: “Dad, you were fifty once. In hindsight, what would you do differently?” I didn’t even have the last syllable come out of my mouth before he answered me succinctly and loudly: “Save more money!”

I wish I had listened to him. But as the old TV ad for a bank I heard in my childhood said, “Wishing won’t do it, saving will.”

You may have bought into the serendipity of the song lyrics “Que Sera, Sera, whatever will be will be, the future’s not ours to see,” but that predictor goes out the window when you give your attention to what you’re doing now.

Your actions now are your ESP for whatever will be.

All the best,

John
