Outside Noise Annoys - Grasshopper

The full message from The Grasshopper was this: “Outside noise annoys; inside noise destroys.”

The noise inside our mind puts us in a bind. We get bound up with a logjam of circular thoughts that keep us in a thought loop that prevents an exit ramp from appearing.

Getting caught up in our thoughts ensures the deafening of anything new getting through.

Outside noise will always be with us. It’s like death, taxes, and personal injury lawyer ads. We learn to ignore it to the best of our ability. But inside noise can’t be ignored if we want it to go away. We need to recognize it and let it have its say.

The key is not to argue with the internal noise or engage it in any sort of discussion. Our job is to observe it as a bystander, not a participant. When we just observe our noisy thoughts, they become like a thunderstorm that rolls away, making room for a quieter mind and a more peaceful day.

A quiet mind is a conduit for creative thought; a noisy mind stays stuck with thoughts of should, must, and ought ?" which keep us caught up in fraught.

Observe your thoughts and become less annoyed by the internal noise. As for the outside noise, think of these lyrics from Godfather of Soul James Brown: If you hear any noise, It's just me and the boys.”

All the best,

John
